Filter & Purification

Does the Siesta Air Purifier cure allergies, such as hay fever, etc?
-
Since the Siesta Air Purifier is not a medical device, we cannot claim that it cures allergies. However, the micro-dust collection capability eliminates allergens such as dust and dust mites which cause allergic reactions and pollen which is the main cause of hay fever, thereby relieving the symptoms of the allergy.

Will I catch fewer colds if I use the Siesta Air Purifier?
-
The Siesta captures and destroys the germs and bacteria in airborne dust particles by means of the filter and photocatalytic technology. This means the risk of catching a cold from these germs is reduced. However, as the Siesta is not a medical device, we cannot claim that it will prevent you from catching a cold altogether.

Does the Siesta Air Purifier eliminate all kinds of odour to the same level?
-
Substances that are made up of fairly small particles such as ammonia are easy to break down and are therefore removed quickly. Other substances made up of larger particles take longer to break down and therefore take slightly longer to remove.

Is the Siesta effective against tobacco smoke?
-
Cigarette smoke and odour can be completely eliminated with the Siesta Air Purifier. General air cleaners merely capture in their filter the odorous components included in the cigarette smoke. The Siesta has far better odour removal performance because the photocatalytic technology actually breaks down and neutralises the odours, preventing them from being re-released into the atmosphere, as happens in general air cleaners once their filter is saturated.

Is the Siesta effective against traffic fumes?
-
Car exhaust fumes (Nitrous Oxide) and the smell from new construction materials (formaldehyde) that generally surround us can be eliminated as well by the Siesta.
-
-
Against what bacteria and viruses is the Siesta effective?
-
The Siesta is effective against the following bacteria and viruses:
- Staphylococcus aureus: the bacterium that causes food poisoning.
- Staphylococcus: this bacterium causes suppurative diseases such as pneumonia, food poisoning and sepsis.
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa: this bacterium causes urinary tract and airway infections.
- Acillus subtilis: this bacterium causes conjunctivitis.

What is meant by the term “deactivates viruses”?
-
Micro organisms such as moulds, bacteria and viruses multiply while attaching themselves to living cells. The oxidising power of the Siesta Air Cleaner encloses viruses in protein masses so that they can no longer attach themselves to cells, stopping their activity. This is called “deactivating”.

What is photocatalysis?
-
Photocatalytic action resembles the “photosynthesis” which takes place on the surfaces of plant leaves. In photosynthesis, oxygen is created from carbon dioxide and water using chlorophyll as the catalyst. In photocatalysis, hydroxyl group radicals that have powerful oxidising action are created from the water and oxygen in the air using titanium oxide as the catalyst. When bacteria and other organic substances come into contact with the hydroxyl group radicals, they become oxidised and break down. Because of this action, the Siesta Air Cleaner can also break down odorous molecules as well as bacteria and viruses.
